Drunk Hank has done it again.
So the Playbacks were scheduled to play at the Frog and Peach Pub on Saturday, after getting a call from Hank (the bar manager) two weeks ago saying that another band had cancelled.
Then, Wednesday night, we get a call that the other band now wants their slot back.
Being the poor business man that Hank is, he gives it to them and calls us to tell us that we're cancelled. Even though it's he advertised us in the New Times and I had just put fliers up all around downtown.
Our singer is livid. I'm understandably angry, but I also know that the bar scene sucks and these sorts of things happen?
So I run into the Travis Larson Band last night, and they said that Hank tried to cancel them at the Frog and Peach for their thursday night gig cause Hank had double booked. They were in the paper as well. They went out of their way to contact the other band and tell them to screw off. They are a hard working band, and if the gig is advertised in the paper, well dammit, they're gonna play it.
What a mess Drunk Hank is ending up to be. Twice in one week!
To be completely honest, I'm actually looking foreword to not playing on a saturday night for a change, being that I had already landed another gig during the day.

Dude I know better then anyone that Hank can fuck shit up. He really shouldn't have dicked you guys like that or TLB for that matter. However it sucks that TLB took their frustrations out on the "other" band which was Mercury Rising. Naturally the scheduling SNAFU wasn't their fault either so they were put in an equally bad position. This is the post they put out to their fans:
"Hello friends!
Sorry to inform everyone that due to a scheduling conflict, we are cancelling our show at the Frog n Peach this coming Thursday, March 22nd. It's sad, but this is becoming a regular thing at that establishment.
We were scheduled from 830 to 1130, but were bumped back per request of the act before us. We were never asked in advance if we could play a later time slot and unfortunately, we cant, so we have to cancel.
We tried to make the adjustment back with the 'other' band, but they are not budging ... because they see it as something between us and the bar ... oh well!
Anyway, see you all NEXT TIME at Sweet Springs Saloon on April 7th!
Much love,
Mercury Rising"
What Hank should have done here (besides never double booking in the first place!) was split the night in two for the bands and pay both of them the full amount promised.
On the brighter side it seems like there is something in the air right now and there will be more venues booking live music again soon. When that happens the venues that treat music poorly will suffer.
Cheers!
